I have a 10 year old dachshund mix dog that is overall very healthy. She has always slept with me in bed, eating drinking normal etc. She has always had severe storm anxiety that not even trazadone helps. About a week from today, she started having nightly bed time anxiety. As soon as we would go to bed she would have a full blown panic attack, shivering panting pacing. We had to lock her into our office where she has a “den” just to get her to calm down and for us to sleep at all. (side note i didn’t sleep because i felt so guilty)
Trazadone a few hours before bed did not help
I took her to the vet and they started her on gabapentin at bed instead and prozac daily. They said she is too young and healthy to have doggy dementia yet. The gabapentin does help tremendously. The nights we have given it two hours before bed she sleeps the entire night in our bed fine. We tried one night since being given the gabapentin and she did in fact have another panic attack
My question for you guys here, is has anyone seen this in dogs with severe anxiety? Just triggered by night time in general suddenly. Does prozac ever help with the storm anxiety? We even had a storm today and I didn’t want to give her gabapentin too early before bed but her panic from the storm was so bad I had to give it.
This dog is my literal world. So any advice from people with similar issues is so appreciated.
