We have gotten a 11 week old danish/swedish farmdog, 5 days ago.
This is our first dog and of course, puppy.
We are in a situation where we are unsure if the pup is over, or under stimulated. The race is not for beginners and requires some experience we’ve been told, so that is also why we’re feeling we’re in deep waters.
We have a Kong, as well as licking Matts we bought today. But often this pup will not be sleeping more than 12-14 hours a day. We have a hard time getting him to sleep, or calm down. Especially during night time. We are currently training him in how to sit, but may have mentality under stimulated him, as we thought we were overstimulating him. Then we tried to make everything boring, which made him restless, which we might have mistook for overstimulation, and que the downward spiral…
Usually he only has to pee once during nights, which is ok for getting some sleep.
We are getting him trained from next week (puppy school), as well as having a personal dog trainer coming over tomorrow.
Yes, we are indeed in the puppy blues state, and overwhelmed by the responsibility of a puppy. But we made a decision that we toughen it out, and will go through it. Because we know that it is just tough for the first 8 months+, with a puppy.
But do anyone in here, have any recommendations to ensure he is properly mentally stimulated, and of course if this might be the issue.
Similar experiences and potentially solutions are welcome as well.
