My dog is almost 8 years old. She is a chow chow. She's very loving and is always giving affection. She's helped me at my lowest and I love her very much.
She's a dog I rescued from an abusive household. She is a very sickly dog. She's had multiple instances of dislocated joints because her joints are shallow. Whenever she tries to run and jump, there's at least a chance of her dislocating her joint.
She can't have puppies because of some condition with her heart.
She's had a couple of ehrlichia infections over the years.
She recently had GDV which thank God she survived, but lost her spleen and half her stomach.
She also has hypothyroidism which wasnt caught early so she is now taking maintenance for that.
She also has a skin condition where it itches 24/7. I've been to a couple of vets, but they couldnt determine what it is and is just prescribing Apoquel, which the Vet stopped because prolonged usage might damage her liver.
She was a very happy dog. But right now, she just exists. I think she likes it when I'm around. When I go out she doesn't cry anymore. She's not excited for walks, she only eats the bare minimum. She doesnt like toys anymore.
I don't know what to do. I live in a third world country and the vet fees and meds are piling up. I dont have unlimited funds.
My dog is just scratching herself everytime I see her, and wounds being inflicted. We really feel sorry for her.
I just want her to live comfortably. I owe her that.
I just want to ask this sub, any tips on what we can do to ease her itch? Home remedies, so it would't be expensive.
I've tried epsom salts, probiotic snacks, antifungal medications, she's bathing twice a week using medicated soaps. I've already tried a lot.
