I’ll be honest, this is partly on me. When my son (20)atm got a Presa Canario, I didn’t really research the breed. We used to have a Cane Corso mix that was big but easygoing, so I assumed it would be similar. Clearly not.
He’s now 13 months old and has become very reactive/aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. Outside he’s tense and quick to react. He is already 53kgs and not overweight at all, extremly strong and drivey. Nothing like ive seen before in dogs this sie
My son works with the dog and spends alot of time with him, they have a great bond. But The main problem is he only listens to my son. With him he’s fine, but with me he ignores commands completely and shows zero respect. It feels like we have no control over him at all.
I’ll be honest I’ve started to feel uncomfortable being around him alone. And I’m worried about what this could turn into when he’s fully grown at 2–3 years. For instance yesterday i was alone with him and my son always plays rough with him, the dog thought lets do the same with me. He jumped in my face, bit my clothes. I told him multiple times no and he didnt react. I had a pounding heart and was shaking of fear. Then my son came downstairs and the dog stopped
Looking back, I think i underestimated the breed and didn’t do enough research
Is this normal for a Presa at this age, or is this already going the wrong way? And is this something that can still be fixed?
Any honest advice is appreciated.
