How do I help my 15-year-old dog understand/cope with the loss of our other dog?

hi everyone,

i recently lost my 7 year old husky, Kai, very suddenly, and my 15 year old dog never got the chance to see him or say goodbye. they lived together, and i’m worried he might be confused or waiting for him to come back.

i’ve heard that dogs can understand loss better when they’re able to see or smell the body, but that wasn’t something we were able to do. i just want to make this as easy on him as possible and help him feel some sense of comfort or closure, if that’s even something dogs experience.

has anyone gone through something similar? how did your dog react, and is there anything i can do to help him adjust or understand that his companion is gone?
