I tried looking this problem up in the wiki and couldn't find an answer to this specific problem…
We added a new puppy to our family a week ago and our 3 year old resident dog has been doing really good overall with puppy, after about 48 hours of getting used to each other. They play nicely usually and are fed separately, learning to just co-exist overall it's going fine.
Today however we had an issue present itself I wasn't expecting. Our resident dog took one of puppies toys and was walking around with it, head low so puppy thought she was trying to play. She grabbed the toy and it seemed like they were playing tug, then the play growling turned to real growling and resident dog growled/ snapped at puppy a little too harshly, scared puppy pretty bad. We checked though and couldn't find that she actually touched puppy, but it obviously scared everyone
They play absolutely fine together without toys, our guess is that resident dog sees these new toys and is jealous/guarding the fun new thing. So I am looking for resources/ trainers to help but I've been looking online and everything I'm finding is about puppy stealing from adult dog not the other way around.
