I have an 8 month old corgi that I love dearly but we are not 100% on potty training yet. he doesn’t really ever have accidents inside anymore, but we have left him a potty pad by the back door in case of emergencies. the problem is, he keeps using the potty pad most of the time! we take him outside every few hours, he will pee a few times–usually small spurts–then after 15 minutes we come inside and pee again on the pad! and he has not pooped outside in such a long time. I’ve tried:
• asking him to poo while outside • feeding him breakfast BEFORE going outside because I know he usually goes right after eating • staying outside longer • waiting until he goes to the pad and interrupting him to take him outside only to get distracted running around and having fun chasing all the squirrels and plants around. • removing the pad altogether, but he just goes on the floor where the pad was.
just now we were outside for 20 minutes, only peed a few times, came back inside, tried to go on the pad. I interrupted him and took him outside only to have him run around and eat leaves. came back inside and within TEN SECONDS he’s pooping on the pad. I’m at my wits end on how to get him to go ONLY outside and not see the potty pad as the primary spot. please help!
