New puppy loves outside, is scared of walking around inside

We just got a new puppy yesterday. He’s four months old, mixed breed from the humane society. I’m not sure if he’s ever been out of the shelter. He is very sweet and affectionate but is so scared to wander the house. He loves outside and is such a typical playful puppy when he’s out. But as soon as he comes inside I can tell he’s super uncomfortable and trepidatious.

He sticks mainly to his spot on the couch, his bed by the window and our bed that he slept in all night last night with no issue. They’re like his little home bases if that makes sense?

What can I do to help him get more confident and comfortable inside? It’s been a long time since we had a puppy; our 16 year old baby passed a few months ago and I’m a bit rusty.
