I took in a puppy from my grandparents due to littermate syndrome (the 4 were so dependent on each other you couldn't do anything with them) this started at 6 weeks old. I knew going in would hard so I baught a snuggle puppy to help the transition.
I let him wine for a little bit to see if he will soothe himself back to sleep at night, (his cage is in the living room due to smaller bedroom) in the event that he won't self soothe i put my hand in the crate without opening the door, hopefully showing him that i am still there but not allowing him to think screaming will let him out of the cage. If he continues to cry I check and make sure that he hadn't messed in the cage or needs a drink of water.
Am I doing this the wrong way? I want to make sure that he isn't scared but knows that when he is in his cage that it is ok and he is safe!
