My partner and I are in the midst of raising our first puppy – she is a 6 month old we rescued at 3 months. She was so fearful when we brought her home we have been doing a lot of work with confidence building. In the past 2 weeks she has started barking at guests in our home, which she did not used to do. It is overwhelming for both us and the guests.
We are asking guests to ignore her and/or toss treats behind her. She generally warms up after a bit but then it’s like she forgets the guest is there, realizes, and the barking begins all over again.
I am wondering if this is common and what others have done to help in this situation?
It is hard for me not to compare her to other puppies who are super friendly around new people. I want her to feel safe/secure but currently overwhelmed..
