My family got a new puppy last week (she’s 4 months, adopted her from a shelter) and she’s so sweet and smart, and we’re doing really well teaching her, if she does something bad or hurts one of us it’s a firm “No” and redirecting her to a toy. Right now we think her adult teeth are coming through so obviously her mouth is really sore and she likes to bite and chew, which is normal and she’s got innumerable toys and we play with her for hours everyday.
What I want to know is why does she only play so rough with me? With my parents she’s so sweet and the first few days in the house as she got used to things and we started to train her she was rough with everyone, and we’ve managed really well to pull her attention to her toys instead. She plays with all of us but not so rough with my parents, with me she can play for ages as I’m younger and can get on her level for more equal tug of war games etc, but she’s usually a sweetheart. When she’s well rested and had some food she’s full of energy but she only takes it out on/with me. She launches herself full force at me regardless of whether I’m actively playing with her or not, and she tries to bite me a lot more than she does my parents, and when we’re outside she runs mad and when she has the zoomies she’s hurt me a lot (never maliciously) and at one point hurt herself (not badly) but she rarely does so with my parents, and only does if I’m not at home.
I understand that she’s a really young puppy and is teething and is full of energy and is still learning, but she only ever plays really rough with me, I don’t mind the occasional nip as we’re still training her but is there any reason why she plays so rough with me but no one else in my family? Again, she’s really smart and listens when I tell her “No” and most of the times she’s an absolute darling.
