We had to say goodbye to my 13-year-old dog last month, and my 12-year-old dog got to smell her and say goodbye to her. She was not with her when she passed. We also had another dog (M) that passed away 5 years ago; they didn't seem too affected by it, but my 13 and 12 (F) are closer to each other.
Ever since her passing, we have tried to have her sleep on my bed, which is something we don't normally do. She has had some restless nights; however, this week she has been crying at night, which is sometimes followed by panting. She cries to leave the bed and the room, goes outside for some time, then comes back into the room and starts the whole process 2-3 times a night. She is throwing the trash and eating it, which she had not done before. She also refuses to sleep in her bed and will cry or knock over her doggy gate, both in the house and outside.
She is a very, very calm dog. During the day, she mainly sleeps and doesn't do much, but this only happens at night. Could she be looking for my other dog that passed away in her sleep? Has anybody else experienced this?
