I have a Velcro puppy…

My family has been researching getting a puppy for quite a while. I have a whole month off of work, and wanted a younger puppy so I could shape and mold her behaviorally, as we want a true family dog.

She is a lab/heeler mix according to the shelter, and is 10 weeks old. I've had two previous puppies in my adult life and crate trained both of them within 72 hours.

This puppy, though, won't even let me leave the room. I'm trying all of the recommended tricks to get her to feel comfortable in her playpen and her crate.

She seems to settle a little better in her crate, but if I leave the room without her being extremely exhausted, she howls. I live in an apartment so I don't want to let her go off forever.

I understand all the factors at play here, like that she is an infant and a breed mix that is specifically meant to be with one person. But I'm concerned that I will not be able to crate train her when I have to go back to work at the beginning of March.

Please share any suggestions that you think might help based on your own experience!
