One more question about “adult” dog food

Hello!! We have the perfect puppy, and he is literally our whole world now! We lost our very beloved ShihTzu, Mia,17 years old, exactly one year ago today. Since then we’ve spent a lot of time grieving and thought we’d never get another.

We adopted Ray, 11 weeks old at the time, on Jan 8. He is now 16 weeks. The ONLY (small) complaint I have is that he is a much more picky eater than our Mia was. It makes me so anxious when he doesn’t eat. He’s small, just now 4 pounds, and a Morkie/ShihTzu mix.

We’d like to keep him on Purina Pro, sensitive stomach and skin, Puppy. He loved it day one and since then we’ve tried the tricks: wetting it, wetting it and freezing it, play mat (snuffle), topping with green beans cut up (no salt), adding some carrot, literally tossing it (he loves to chase things). Anyway, each new trick brings enjoyment for one day then he’s done.

He didn’t gain weight last week and I sort of spiraled. I’ve looked into toppers and the vet suggested adding a small amount of wet food and mixing it. For ease on his little system, I’d like to introduce Purina Pro wet, but it is REALLY hard finding wet, sensitive in PUPPY. No problem in adult.

Long story short, if I add ADULT wet in very small amounts, and keep the majority of his intake puppy kibble, would the adult addition hurt him? I guess I’m looking at it as he’s getting all his nutrients like DHA for puppies and the adult is just a small “bonus” for palatability.

He sees the vet again later this week, and I’ll of course bring this up (again) but wondered if anyone ever added adult to puppy food.

Thanks for letting me ramble; this little guy just owns my heart and soul. Even though I should feel fairly confident having a healthy dog for 17 years, I feel the opposite now.
